  1. I see your pain. Even here in US, you have to be extremely careful while buying stuff from eBay. No wonder, person needs to be 100 times more careful when buying anything from Indian online site. {Submit this entry to Indian Blog Mela so that others are aware about this!]

  2. Yeah, well, thanks.
Its not about money, Rs.67 is not that much, but still its frustrating to be taken for a ride like this. You know what I’m gonna do the next time? I’ll simply buy using my Credit Card & if anything like this happen, I’ll simply do a Chargeback & let eBay take care of the fraud seller.

  3. Sorry to hear you got ripped off by some unscrupulous merchant – in the UK, eBay buyers and sellers don’t have anything like the level of fraud you say you have in India. That’s mostly because virtually everyone uses PayPal (PayPaise in India) which means that buyers and sellers are traceable and chargebacks can be easily done and monitored.

There’s a lot of good books available to help people new to BaaZee (eBay) avoid the pitfalls and scams – some of these books are free – try http://www.linksmultiple.co.uk for a free eBay Buyers Guide. As JD suggests, maybe you should submit this entry to Indian Blog Mela so that others are aware about this.

Saw the item below recently about India-based sellers registering directly on eBay USA and eBay UK so they can market their wares to a much bigger audience – thought you might be interested…..

Serious Stuff – eBay Takes Over India’s Top Online Auction

BaaZee is India’s equivalent of eBay with over 1m users. eBay acquired BaaZee in August ’04 and the name changed to eBay.in this week (22 Mar ‘05).

So what? – you’re thinking. Well, if you already use eBay to find bargains in your own country you really need to look at what you can get in India for really really low prices. Cost of living there is about one tenth USA and Western Europe so even allowing for postage there are some incredible bargains to be got.

But here’s the catch. Unless you do an eBay international search for specific descriptions, items on eBay.in don’t show up. So if like me a lot of your eBay shopping is done browsing through categories you won’t find the bargains from India.

If you do decide to look at eBay.in their main auction categories are Apparels & Accessories, Bollywood Costumes, Books & Magazines, Cameras & Optics, Cars & Bikes, Computers & Peripherals, Consumer Electronics, Fitness and Sports, Health & Beauty, Home, Tools & Appliances, Jewellery & Watches, Mobiles & Accessories, Movies & Videos, Music & Instruments, Services & Real Estate, Stamps, Coins & Hobbies, Toys & Games, Travel, Tickets & Vouchers and Video Games.

But eBay.in doesn’t yet seem to have portals like eBay Motors, eBay Collectibles (or eBay Collectables if you’re in the UK) so maybe that’s coming by June ‘05 when eBay say the global integration will be complete.

What a number of smart India based sellers have done to get their items easily visible across the world is register directly on eBay.com, eBay.uk etc. and are not just making a bit of money but (in relative terms for India) an absolute fortune selling their stuff globally.

  4. do not expect baazee to give u any quality product. all products I bought were of substandard quality.

yeah, well, fraudsters are everywhere, its not just India or anywhere else!! you can see a load of fraudsters on ebay.com & ebay.co.uk. I could’ve paid via credit card & then could’ve charged back but then, what the heck, what’s done is done!! its a lesson learned for Rs.67. 🙂

err, can you provide a link?

  6. E-Bay is definately posting Sub-Standard products to its buyer. I purchased a set of 15 assorted Paint Brushes, but these brushes from “China” are like SHIT in comparison to what we usually buy from shops. Paint brushes have either Animal(Horse, Rabbit, Squirrel, Camel) Hair or Synthetic hair, but they supply it with some thing of other world, and the Quality of overall brushes are Pathatic.

Sorry to say, but never ever go to buy anything ONLINE, that I have learnt from this experiance. !!

  7. What’s eBay got to do with sub-standard stuff?? Its the kind of sellers that are selling their stuff that matters. And since things are so easy, even idiots can login & sell on eBay & thats whats happening with eBay India(formerly Baazee.com). These sellers think that since no one’s gonna inspect their wares & they are gonna get paid in advance, they can cheat openly.
