iG:Syntax Hiliter is a plugin that I’ve made. It can highlight the HTML, CSS, PHP, JAVA & SQL codes. I know there’s another syntax hilighter plugin. But that didn’t work on my machine, so I made this. ๐
Its been more than a month since Microsoft announced last month that its going to increase the storage of free Hotmail accounts from 2MB to 250MB in July. Where is it? July is almost over with just 2 days left. ๐ I just checked my Hotmail account & it still says 2MB. ๐ฅ
Anyways, moving onto the news story, according to the reports err the leak I mean ๐ , the antivirus will be a standalone product & not bundled with Windows & it will be built around the nuts n bolts Microsoft got by buying GeCad & Pelican Software, back in 2003.
So, I finally have upgraded to WP1.2, more than 2 months after it was officially released. I was not one of the quickest to notice its release, but not late either.
But as is with upgrading any software, time was required & also I was thinking of doing a new design. This upgrade does have a new design but its not the one that I intended originally. I was supposed to make an original creation of mine, thus helping me get more familiar with WP template tags etc. but alas, things didn’t work out my way & I didn’t get time. Also, one of the reasons that I wanted do it myself as I wanted the current CSS positioned layout to a more solid <table> layout. Why? Many of you guys may raise an eyebrow or two about that. But the reason for that is, some of my readers who are still using 4.x & 5.x browsers, have reported that the layout doesn’t appear well in their browsers & they have difficulty in reading my Blog. But as I said, I didn’t get the time, so I’ve to do with a CSS based layout. This layout is based on one created by Vladimir Simovic for the WordPress Style Competition held by Alex King long ago. I’ve ofcourse, edited it quite a bit until I was tired.
In a latest announcement, Verisign, the keeper of all .COM & .NET domain name registries, announced that from September 8 2004, it’ll put into place a new feature that will reflect changes in the domain names within 5 minutes of them being applied by the registrars. Currently it takes about 20 hours for the changes to be reflected & hence its quite a pain in the back when moving a website from one server to another. ๐ก But that’s all going to be history after September 8. ๐ With this new system in place, you will be able to move your websites from one server to another with virtually no down-time. This also means that a new domain is ready to go as soon as its regsitered. ๐ This is all too good to be true for those who’ve like me, suffered the long lapse of time before DNS zones are updated world-wide after changing the servers of a domain name. ๐
SharpReader, the great free RSS Aggregator software by Luke Hutteman is more sharp now. ๐ As of now, the v0.9.5.0 is available for free download at http://www.sharpreader.net/. I’ve been using v0.9.4.0 till yet & haven’t upgraded to v0.9.4.1 but now have done so without any problems. Just a matter of copy-pasting the files. I avoided the installer which is available with this version. ๐ Just downloaded the ZIP file & extracted them to my SharpReader folder. That’s all. ๐ Since I didn’t delete or un-install the previous version, I didn’t loose my old settings & feeds too, but nevertheless, I made a backup of them as I’ve learned that it can be quite a pain in the back to remember-search-subscribe again to the 50 odd feeds that I read presently. ๐ So I had the feed urls ready in an OPML file as well as the SharpReader settings so that I don’t loose preserved feed entries. ๐ But never got around to use that backup since the new version didn’t mess with the old settings. I think that I’ll keep that backup for another 2-3 days & if nothing messy happens with SharpReader, I’ll just delete it. ๐
Mark has setup a nice service for all of us. ๐ Its UploadBin. ๐ ๐ Yeah, you can upload your files to this place & have them password protected. You just have to browse a file on your computer that you wanna upload, supply a password to protect it & off you go. Once your file is uploaded, a link is given to you. Just send that link & password to someone with whom you wanna share the file & (s)he can download the file by supplying the password on the page that opens at that link. ๐ Your file is good for 1 week after which its deleted. ๐
Another much awaited release was the final stable version Mono 1.0 which eventually came out of Beta & was released as final stable version1.0 on June 30, 2004. The Mono-Project is a step to bring Microsoft’s .NET platform to Linux to harness the peaks of .NET & allow non-Windows users to use .NET.
Alright, I can’t ignore it any further. ๐ The much anticipated PHP5 final release is out. Pitted directly against Microsoft’s ASP.NET, this has been the much awaited version of PHP, though another version in the 4.x series, the PHP4.3.8 is also out. Both released on the same date over a week ago, I can hardly believe that there’s been no noise, no fireworks, etc. over the release of PHP5.
Though I’ve hardly got the time to rejoice over anything in the past 2 weeks, I think it was just saved for the BIG moment. ๐ When I checked in to see my standings in Google tonight, I hardly imagined to see what I’m seeing now. I’m honoured to announce that according to Google, I’m now the most popular Amit Gupta on Internet. ๐
