Behold WordPress.com!!

Posted by on in iNews | 0 comments

Blogs on WordPress.com, the hosted service by WordPress running on the multi-blog version called WordPress MU, were available via invitation only until now. But on November 21st 2005(as I noticed), the invite only barrier was lifted & it was opened for public registration!! 😀

WordPress.com is a hosted blog service like Blogger, LiveJournal, TypePad, which allows you to create a blog of your own. But this service is free & its better since its running on WordPress!! 😉 It provides you a sub-domain of your username(so choose carefully since it can’t be changed) and protects your blog from spam using the Akismet. You can find FAQs on WordPress.com at the WordPress.com FAQ Blog.

What is Open Source?

Posted by on in iDevelop | 0 comments

Yes, what is open source? A lot of people will answer differently to that question and quite large is the number of people who mistake Open Source to be a synonym of FREE(as in beer, meaning free of cost). These kind of people are really annonying, especially when they make statements like they prefer FireFox over IE because the former is open source while the latter is not!! Apart from anything else, when you hear such comments from people using Windows, you’d feel like banging a big iron hammer on their head!! Apparently, its evident that they are mis-informed and consider open source to be synonym for free, but even then their comments wouldn’t make any sense since the last I knew, Microsoft weren’t charging anything for IE, it comes free with the Windows operating system along with other goodies!!

My Hindi Blog!!

Posted by on in Serious Jokes | 0 comments

yeah, I found a great tool called HindiWriter which is a conversion tool that converts phonetically written hindi(in english) into UTF8 Hindi. (via Shahab)

now typing in hindi is pretty easier for people like me who don’t know traditional hindi typing. 🙂 and to use this tool more often & get into the habit of hindi writing(its been a long time), I thought what better than to blog in Hindi. And what better way to use my WordPress.com blog? So if you can read hindi and have a Unicode supporting browser(like IE6 or Opera), then you are welcome to visit & read my views expressed in my language at http://www.amitgupta.in/ !! 🙂

Sprained Hand!!

Posted by on in Serious Jokes | 0 comments

Ok, life is like a roller-coaster ride. I was having fun these past few days & now I’m paying for it with a sprained right hand wrapped fully in bandage that I can’t use it right now, so I’m typing this using just my left hand!!

Now, I didn’t get only right hand injured, but had a few scratches & lost a chunk of skin from my right foot as well, the result of my bike colliding with a pig(the animal ofcourse) which suddenly came infront of me out of nowhere when I was speeding down to the Tata Indicom showroom just a few hours back to get my phone fixed. The pig first collided with a car on my left & then with my bike & ran away squealing, while I lost balance, fell on the road & skidded 2-3 meters before stopping!! 🙁 I was saved a lot by the leg guard on the bike which held off the bike’s weight(it weighs 150KG & imagine the increase in it with the impact of it falling down at speed) as it fell to the ground, keeping me safe from some serious injury to my left leg which only got a scratch above the knee cap. The leg guard of the left side ofcourse bent quite a bit & now I’ll have to get it straightened out(its solid steel).

Deepawali 2005 - the Videos!!

Posted by on in Serious Jokes | 5 comments

As promised in my last post yesterday, I’ve the Deepawali videos online!! Well, putting them online was indeed some story worthy of a mention, so I’ll rant about it first!! 😉

This was the first time that I shot videos & also the first time I was putting them online!! Now those of you who know, I’m on a measly 128kbps cable connection that hardly gives me anything above 100kbps on normal days, more than often going to the lowly 60-65kbps. So ofcourse putting the videos online is a problem!! But then, I decided to brave it, to make available online 9 of the videos that I shot, totalling 42.3MB.

Posted by on in Serious Jokes | 0 comments

Yeah, the Deepawali was a lot brighter this year, the number of fireworks & crackers burnt around here was less than last year & its all quiet at 3am in the morning of 2nd November 2005 as I write this blog post(contrary to the crackers that were being set till 4am last year). There are sounds of one off firework going on in distance, some nutters are still at it, forgetting that deepawali is now over!! 😉

Star Wars Quiz!!

Posted by on in Serious Jokes | 4 comments

Yeah, how much you know about the first & second trilogies? You can test your StarWars knowledge by taking this Star Wars quiz at CNN.com. 😉 It’ll actually test you more on the first trilogy than on second!! 😀 So if you haven’t watched the first trilogy, better watch it now, the movies may not have the special effects that the ones in second trilogy had, but the story is still captivating while you can marvel the fact at how they managed to pull them off in the 70s & 80s(The Return of Jedi – 1983) without all the gizmos that they had when making the second trilogy!!
