Pics from Gurgaon, again!!

Posted by on in Serious Jokes | 0 comments

Yeah, I visited my friend in Gurgaon again(previous photos here), on November 15th 2005. But we(me, Madan, Arvind and a friend of Madan’s) got around for a walk to one of the malls a bit late in the evening as Madan was stuck with some problems in their software, so it was around 10pm when we reached Sahara Mall, almost all of the stores were closed for the day & the shoppers were all gone pretty much. But there were some still open & we had a quick dinner at Haldiram’s.

Hottest Cyber Real Estate?!

Posted by on in iNews | 0 comments

ICANN board will meet this weekend in Vancouver, British Columbia, to decide on the proposal to allow single letter domain registrations, reports Yahoo! news.

Now this can turn out to be hottest real estate in the cyberspace, since everyone would love to get hold of a single letter .COM or .NET or .ORG!! Heck, I’d be content with a single letter domain in any TLD, be it .INFO or .BIZ or .IN, anything!! 😉 So another point of discussion would be the procedure of allowing registrations for these domains, since at present domains can be registered for anything like $5/year to $100/year or above(depending on the TLD & Registrar) on a first-come-first-served basis. But like every system, this system also has its flaws as almost all of domain grabbers & squatters have automated scripts/programs that check for a domain’s availability and registers it when its available!! But these single letter domains probably won’t be available in that way!! 😕 Its quite possible that they’ll be auctioned & the price of each can fetch a six-figure sum or above a million dollars as well depending on who is bidding, like Yahoo! would love to grab Y.COM & I don’t think Google would lag behind to lay its hands on G.COM either!! 😉

Behold WordPress.com!!

Blogs on WordPress.com, the hosted service by WordPress running on the multi-blog version called WordPress MU, were available via invitation only until now. But on November 21st 2005(as I noticed), the invite only barrier was lifted & it was opened for public registration!! 😀

WordPress.com is a hosted blog service like Blogger, LiveJournal, TypePad, which allows you to create a blog of your own. But this service is free & its better since its running on WordPress!! 😉 It provides you a sub-domain of your username(so choose carefully since it can’t be changed) and protects your blog from spam using the Akismet. You can find FAQs on WordPress.com at the WordPress.com FAQ Blog.

What is Open Source?

Posted by on in iDevelop | 0 comments

Yes, what is open source? A lot of people will answer differently to that question and quite large is the number of people who mistake Open Source to be a synonym of FREE(as in beer, meaning free of cost). These kind of people are really annonying, especially when they make statements like they prefer FireFox over IE because the former is open source while the latter is not!! Apart from anything else, when you hear such comments from people using Windows, you’d feel like banging a big iron hammer on their head!! Apparently, its evident that they are mis-informed and consider open source to be synonym for free, but even then their comments wouldn’t make any sense since the last I knew, Microsoft weren’t charging anything for IE, it comes free with the Windows operating system along with other goodies!!

Sprained Hand!!

Posted by on in Serious Jokes | 0 comments

Ok, life is like a roller-coaster ride. I was having fun these past few days & now I’m paying for it with a sprained right hand wrapped fully in bandage that I can’t use it right now, so I’m typing this using just my left hand!!

Now, I didn’t get only right hand injured, but had a few scratches & lost a chunk of skin from my right foot as well, the result of my bike colliding with a pig(the animal ofcourse) which suddenly came infront of me out of nowhere when I was speeding down to the Tata Indicom showroom just a few hours back to get my phone fixed. The pig first collided with a car on my left & then with my bike & ran away squealing, while I lost balance, fell on the road & skidded 2-3 meters before stopping!! 🙁 I was saved a lot by the leg guard on the bike which held off the bike’s weight(it weighs 150KG & imagine the increase in it with the impact of it falling down at speed) as it fell to the ground, keeping me safe from some serious injury to my left leg which only got a scratch above the knee cap. The leg guard of the left side ofcourse bent quite a bit & now I’ll have to get it straightened out(its solid steel).
